Food Pantry During the Summer Months
I watched a video about a woman, named Samantha, and her family. They are a low income family. Her kids go to school for nine of the twelves months through the year. During the three months of summer, Samantha struggles to provide her kids with three healthy meals per day. This seems to be a problem with many low income family.
Samantha and her family live off a $22,000 salary per year. Samantha works as a teacher aid at the school and only gets paid during the nine months she works. Her children have to receive free and reduced lunches at school. During the summer months many families, like Samantha’s struggle with school-aged children receiving food. It is still important, even at that time of year, for children to be receiving food.
Samantha relies on food pantries in her neighborhood to feed her children during the summer. As a teacher-aid, she knows her children are learning during the summer months as well. She says it is hard for her to have to rely on other people to help feed her kids. She hopes one day she is the one helping others. There are plenty of families out there struggling to feed their school-aged kids.
There are programs to help feed children throughout the whole year. There is free and reduced breakfasts and lunches during school months, and food pantries during summer months. Low income families, like Samantha’s, relies on programs like these year round. Those who are more fortunate can help by giving to food pantries to feed kids. Children need food to grow and learn, and these kids are the future of our world.
